Milestones

Foundation stone
The concept and the development of a first prototype are worked out as part of Patrik Deuss' bachelor thesis at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences. Later in the same year, Florian Gärtner joins the team and helps with the further development of the first LEDCity tube.
— 2016

Foundation & First projects
LEDCity AG is founded, entered in the commercial register and the board of directors is elected. The Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE) supports LEDCity in the first pilot project in Zurich, which is implemented in cooperation with ewz.

Many well-known customers want LEDCity products
We are able to realise our first projects for customers such as ETH, SBB, VBZ, ISS, University of Zurich, LAAX, ewz, Zurich Airport, The Dolder Grand, Amag and many more. Swiss television SRF becomes aware of us and broadcasts a 3-minute report about LEDCity in the programme 10vor10.

3000 households & CHF 1 Million
Since the foundation of LEDCity, the amount of electricity generated by 3000 average Swiss households has been saved in the projects implemented. For the first time, the company achieves an annual turnover of over one million Swiss francs.
— 2019

Expansion
National and international expansion is on the agenda: since December 2019, a sales team has been built up for Western Switzerland and feelers are also being put out to Germany. The expansion is to be made possible through impact investment and the team is to grow to around 25 full-time positions.
— 2020

2 Million
At the beginning of 2021, a first round of financing will be successfully concluded and LEDCity will be able to drive forward its expansion at home and abroad with two million in fresh capital. We also won one of the most important young entrepreneur awards in Switzerland, the De Vigier Award, with CHF 100,000 in prize money. Our team grows to around 30 employees.
— 2021

1 nuclear plant less
Our goal is 10 years after our founding, to have reduced electricity consumption through the use of our products to such an extent that the electricity production of an entire nuclear power plant becomes unnecessary.
— 2027

80% less energy consumption
As a result of our activities, electricity consumption for lighting is expected to decrease by 80% worldwide compared to the effective consumption in this area in our founding year. This goal is to be achieved at the latest 20 years after our foundation: in 2037.
