7 years of LEDCity!

Happy Birthday LEDCity! As LEDCity reaches its seventh anniversary, we pause to reflect on the remarkable journey that has led us to this momentous occasion. Founded by Patrik Deuss and Florian Gärtner-Wyniger in 2017, LEDCity marked a incredible journey from a visionary idea to a leading provider of energy-efficient lighting solutions. From winning prestigious awards and hiring new talents, to developing innovative features and realizing new projects, each moment has been an important part of our growth. 

Over the years, LEDCity has evolved from a visionary idea into a leading force in intelligent lighting systems. Motivated by the staggering statistics showing excessive energy consumption for lighting, our co-founder Patrik Deuss, then a student at ZHAW, envisioned a smarter, more economical approach to illumination. This vision led to the birth of LEDCity in 2017, following Patrik’s graduation and collaboration with our CTO and co-founder, Florian Gärtner-Wyniger.

Since our inception, we’ve witnessed significant milestones and achievements. In 2017, we forged partnerships with the Climate Foundation and the Federal Office of Energy, illuminating the first-ever underpass with our intelligent lighting system.

In 2018, we marked a pivotal moment with successful projects for prestigious clients like ETH, VBZ, University of Zurich, Zurich Airport, and the Dolder Grand. These projects not only achieved remarkable energy savings of up to 90% but also garnered attention from Swiss national television SRF and major newspapers, establishing our presence in the Swiss German market. The following year saw our first million in revenue and electricity savings equivalent to powering over 3000 households.

In 2020, we expanded our horizons nationally and internationally, establishing a sales team for the French-speaking region of Switzerland and founding LEDCity Deutschland GmbH to penetrate the German market. That same year, our innovative solutions in the real estate sector earned us recognition with the NZZ Trend Radar award.

The year 2021 brought another significant milestone as we secured our first financing round, injecting two million euros into the company for expansion. This period also saw the establishment of LEDCity España S.L. and our proud receipt of the De Vigier Award—a testament to our entrepreneurial spirit and a prize of 100,000 Swiss Francs.

Moving into 2022, LEDCity fortified its financial position with funding from technology funds and Credit Suisse, propelling our growth trajectory. We also became part of the Venturelab National Deeptech Team, further solidifying our position as a leader in innovative lighting solutions.

In 2023, we launched our brand “NOMUS” and received the esteemed Green Business Award, reaffirming our commitment to sustainability.

As we celebrate our journey, we remain dedicated to driving positive change in the lighting industry, guided by innovation, sustainability, and excellence.
