The shopping and entertainment centre on the Sihl in Zurich has installed over 3,300 intelligent light sources. The result: energy savings of 93%, leading to cost savings of around CHF 120,000 per year.

Simple solution enables big change.
The lighting in the Sihlcity shopping centre was inefficient and outdated, resulting in high energy bills. Despite the previous installation of motion detectors to reduce operating hours, the stairwell, for example, remained lit for a whole 16 hours. The owner was looking for a cost-effective solution and discovered LEDCity’s modern approach, which integrates all the necessary sensors and control elements into each light source to enable precise and needs-based control.
By reducing the number of operating hours, energy consumption is significantly reduced, which is environmentally friendly and financially beneficial. The LEDCity bulbs last more than twice as long as the previously used FL tubes, which means less frequent replacement and cost savings on materials. With total cost savings of CHF 118,348 per year, the investment will pay for itself in less than 4 years. The project also received funding of CHF 63,000 from ProKilowatt, a subsidy programme of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy, due to the energy efficiency efforts.
