Zurich pupils convert their school to LEDCity lighting solution

Zurich pupils convert their school to LEDCity lighting solution.

With our support, primary and secondary school pupils at the private Delta School in Zurich are converting their classrooms to our energy-efficient, sensor-controlled lighting. Climate protection in everyday life can also be fun.

For almost 25 years, the Delta School has been taking a slightly different approach. For some years now, the Zurich public school has been teaching in mixed-age groups and endeavouring to prepare its pupils for the real demands of life and the challenges of the twenty-first century. It is only logical that the topic of sustainability plays a central role in everyday school life. And although the Delta School and we have different core competences, we pursue a common goal: to counteract climate change with extraordinary approaches. So it was obvious that we didn’t “just” want to retrofit the Delta School, but wanted to offer even greater added value for the pupils.

When our customer advisor suddenly becomes a teacher.

Our Sales Consultant Yves Jungo visited the Delta School for this matter close to his heart. Although it is part of Yves’ daily routine to familiarise customers with our LED lighting system, the visit to the Delta School was a different challenge for him. The aim was to teach the children and young people to understand the big picture and think outside the box. In two teaching units, topics such as electricity, energy efficiency, the 2000-watt society and energy-saving measures were on the timetable for the pupils. But it wasn’t just about theory: the pupils were able to learn about the innovative and climate-friendly technologies that are now available using our sensor-controlled lighting system. Together, they counted the fluorescent tubes in the classrooms, learnt how electricity consumption is calculated and discovered the inner workings of the existing lamps. “If you can teach children the importance of conserving our resources – and in particular the “invisible” resource of electricity – this contributes greatly to a greener future,” says Yves from our sales team.

Beaming faces after successful installation.

The pupils now stroll through their school with a clear conscience and a sense of joy: We have actively done something for an energy-efficient future. And it works! They keep testing out the light sources, walking from right to left and observing how the light follows them and only shines where they are. They look up at the ceiling again and again with pride and are fascinated by what is now possible with the latest technology, sensors and algorithms – especially how much energy can be saved with such a simple conversion. When calculating the actual figures, Céline (15) said she had miscalculated: “I don’t think that’s possible. Are we really saving 60 francs per light bulb per year?”.

Project with a role model character.

This project is very important to our team: the building is now lit in a more energy-efficient way, we were able to give the pupils something to take with them and thus create a successful synergy with the Delta School. We hope that other schools will follow Delta School’s example in the near future, as our focus to date has been on lighting car parks, stairwells and corridors. Our networked lighting solutions are particularly suitable for use in classrooms or offices where more complex lighting solutions are required. The product development enables highly customised configuration via app or web application, optimal and energy-saving lighting thanks to radar and daylight sensors or control with a battery-free and wireless switch. Countless data is collected in the process, which can be clearly analysed in our dashboard and used to improve the air quality in the rooms or better allocate cleaning staff, for example.
